Guide to Choosing the Right Baby Stroller

Choosing a stroller is a significant decision for new parents. By focusing on baby’s age, travel needs, value, and safety, you can find the perfect model.
1. Age and Development of the Baby
This is the most crucial factor, as it relates directly to your baby’s physical safety and comfort.
Babies Under 7 Months (Cannot Sit Upright):
Recommended: A “sit and lie” stroller with an adjustable backrest.
Reasoning: Since newborns and young infants lack neck and back strength, the stroller must support a near-flat or fully flat position. Look for models that recline to a large angle (ideally $165^\circ$ to $170^\circ$), with some high-end models offering a $180^\circ$ flat lie suitable for safe sleep.
Babies Over 7 Months (Can Sit Upright):
Recommended: You have more flexibility. Options include a highly portable, less-functional stroller (umbrella stroller) for convenience, or a regular/multi-functional stroller if budget allows.
Reasoning: They can safely view the world while seated, making portability and ease of handling more important for daily use.
2. Travel Conditions and Usage
Consider where and how often you will be using the stroller.

Cost-Performance (Value)
The purchase price doesn’t always reflect the final cost. Always check what is included.
Accessories Check: Some strollers are sold as a “bundle,” including essential accessories like foot covers or rain covers, while others sell these separately.
Comparison: To assess true cost-performance, compare the final total price (stroller + necessary accessories) of similar models to determine which one offers the best value for your needs.
4. The Safety Factor
Safety features are non-negotiable. Always inspect the harness system carefully.
Harness System: The stroller must include a 5-point harness—comprised of shoulder straps, waist belts, and hip straps—to securely restrain the baby.
Adjustability: The harness length must be easily and securely adjustable to fit your baby snugly as they grow.
Security Check: After buckling and adjusting the harness, test its firmness. The belt must not slowly loosen due to the baby’s movement or shifting weight. If the belt loosens, it will lose its protective effect.
